What’s Nation Building?
Also, nation-building is the basis on which a country takes up an effective role within the world community.
In addition, it is structuring the national identity, using the power of the state.
Who Build a Nation?
Nation builders are those members of the society who take the initiative to develop national community, not only through government programmes but also through individual and group actions.
Moreover, leaders who are nation builders formulate policies that entrench justice, peace, hard work, patriotism, and equity for both the government and the governed.
And the sum purpose is to foster social harmony and economic growth.
Factors of Nation-building
The level of achievement in building a nation can be measured on three
scales, which are:
- (early) development of civil society organisations,
- the rise of a state capable of providing public goods evenly across a territory, and
- the emergence of a shared medium of communication.
But, how can we contribute to nation-building?
Place in Yourself
When it comes to nation-building, no one is left out, no matter who or where you are. There are various avenues which include (and not limited to) the following:
1. A nation needs servant leadership in formulating and executing vibrant, progressive policies; join the political brigade.
2. Every nation desires great economic strength -- Join the exciting world of entrepreneurship.
3. Knowledge is light and power -- Join the educationist world.
4. A nation requires protection against invasion -- Join the armed forces. 5. Righteousness only exalts a nation -- Join the brigade of selfless service. 6. Great families make a great nation -- Be a conscientious parent. Family is the basic unit of a society.
Conclusion
As a worthy citizen, take the initiative to develop your community (local or national), not only through government programmes but also through your individual and group actions.
As Christ’s disciples, we must be committed to serving our nation wholeheartedly and continually seek for its peace, development and growth — being truly “the salt of the world.” (Matthew 5:13)
