Knowing Between the Mind & the Brain
Our physical body has many components such as blood, water, muscles and sinews, brain and bones. Likewise, the soul has many parts, such as mind, spirit, (the non-visual) “heart”, and more (unknown yet).
The Brain and the Mind
The brain is not the same with the mind. The brain is visible but the mind is not. Notwithstanding, they are inherently connected — implicitly, showing the wisdom of God!
According to scientists, the brain contains about 100 billion nerves called “neurons”. The close-working of the neurons form the nervous systems, which control the body and mind.
Furthermore, neurons are cells that carry messages to and from, between the brain and the body. These messages are in the form of electrochemical signals. The signals are basically thoughts, emotions, and automatic functions of the body. Neuroscientists called the network of these neurons “Reticular Activating System.”
Likening to a computer, if the brain is the hardware, the mind is the software. This implies that the mind is the “operating system” which gathers, stores and manages information, using the massive processing resources of the brain.
Brain Serves the Mind
Certainly, the brain relates closely and regularly with the mind. And ordinarily both are inseparable; they are parts of the same entity. For, the brain is a feeder to the mind.

Mainly, external information is collected by the brain through the sensory organs (such as the eyes, ears, nose, etc.) and translates the information to the mind for processing. Then the mind filters the message.
Whatever the mind approves to be true, right and cherished sinks to the “heart” (the invisible, inner or subconscious mind) and forms a belief, value, or habit.
Most importantly, the heart or the subconscious mind is the remote control of the body, and makes the individual personality (attitude, emotions…)
Understandably, those things we do or say, before conscious of them, come from the heart. The statements we tagged “slip of the tongue ” are from the heart (Matthew 12:34-35).
Developing the Brain and Mind
Above all, the brain like any other muscle of the body can be developed; and should be developed by putting the brain to work.
Exercise the brain by thinking out solutions to problems instead of shying away, or explaining away challenges; we thereby train and develop our mind as well for greater achievement, to the glory of God.
However, there is an art of thinking for effectiveness and better results.
“The human mind is our fundamental resource.”
John F. Kennedy, former US president.
