UNDERSTANDING GOD OF THE BIBLE
Most people think of God to be a man, but by far He is not. And to enjoy work with God, we need to know Him (even as Father, if born-again) and understand Him.
However, we cannot truly understand God through His act but by His word. For, God has different ways of doing a thing; but He is bound by His word all the time.
And graciously, God has given us the basis:
It implies that God is God of righteousness, of justice, and of love; and in those virtues He has joy. In other words, every one of God’s actions is based on these virtues. For example, in His redemptive act, God:
- out of love, gave Jesus as a ransom for our sin,
- in righteousness, and in fairness to the angels which are ministering beings, He made the sinless Man, Jesus (rather than an angel) to pay the required price for the sin of mankind (for it is man, not angel, should pay the penalty for the sin of man) and
- of justice, according to the Law, “Death is the penalty for sin.” (Romans 6:23a)
Notwithstanding, we cannot exhaust knowing God. But we must be conscious always of some important truths in working with Him:
Truth No.1:
God is —
• The Giver of Life. He creates our being; and terminates our being on earth.
• He is Love (by name and in action.) There’s never wickedness nor evil in Him. (1 John 4:8)
• He is jealous (by name and action.) But His jealousy isn’t for self-benefit but for our sake.(Exodus 34:14)
• The Rewarder of all labour. He is never partial. (Galatians 6:7)
Truth No. 2:
Everyone is a potential instrument in God’s hand
— either to honour or dishonour, depending on a man’s choice.(Proverbs 16:4)
Truth No. 3:
Nothing is hidden from God who is the ruler of all, at all times and in all generations.
Every person’s thoughts and actions are open to Him; for each man’s spirit exposes him before God.(Proverbs 20:27)
Truth No. 4:
God is ever on the defence of those who live for Him.(2 Chronicles 16:9a)
Truth No. 5:
He is God of “second chance”.
A repentant, broken heart God shall never reject but forgive.(1 John 1:9)
Truth No. 6:
God always honours anyone who takes selfless initiative in honouring Him.(John 12:26; 1 Samuel 2:30b).
There are striking examples of Old Testament heroes like Phinehas and David
with whom God made covenants of salt.(Numbers 25:10-13; 2 Sam.7:2-16)
Truth No. 7:
God is awaiting YOU to be His workmanship for honour and glory.(Ephesians 2:10)
The only requirement is to live in and for Christ (being born again and make yourself available.)
Summary
Upon all, God is ever faithful, righteous, and great in understanding and compassion.
In fact, it’s much easier to please God than to please man, because He knows our hearts and limits; nothing is hidden from Him.
